One of the cool exhibits at the zoo is the footprint exhibit. It shows all kinds of animal footprints from rabbits to elk and goats to elephants. It is always interesting to see these prints and compare them with your own footprints. It is interesting to see their different sizes and shapes and to try and use your own hands or feet to mimic those prints. (I have not done so very successfully.) I understand why I cannot do an animal print like the animal. I don’t have the same feet and I do not have the weight making the impressions.
Are you still trying to use your foot to fill the elephant footprint? What is the elephant footprint? The elephant footprint is the New York Times bestselling author, the motivational speaker shown on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, the business owner on Forbes top 100 companies, or the artist whose work is demanded for gallery displays. These elephant footprints did not start out that large; they grew into that size over time. So many of us are afraid to write that book, do that motivational speaking, start that business, or display our art because our footprint would be so small next to the elephant print. I really don’t think that the rabbit or the goat would consider not taking steps just because their print would not be as large as another animal’s print. That would really be a silly scenario. We need to consider how silly this is for us too. For us to not make our own footprint on this world, we are missing the opportunity to add our design to the total tapestry of footprints. If we are so busy trying to put our foot into the elephant footprint, not only will we feel inadequate but our footprint disappears into that of the elephant’s. Just because your print may be small, it does not make it irrelevant. It is a print that only you can make and without it our tapestry is missing some of its design quality. So, don’t be afraid to put your foot into the sand and make that footprint, whatever size it may be. We already have some elephant footprints so we need your prints to make the design interesting.
